I arrived at Lunacy at the Lake Jindabyne Hotel at 10pm with Tricky and Ricky
fresh from the UK playing some funky tunes they really got the party started!
They were playing on three decks and sampling some wicked beats. It was set to
be an excellent night.
The Lake Jindabyne Hotel staff and security were very
professional as the place was filling up quickly. They looked after everyone who
came through the doors and this was creating a relaxed vibe.
The punters from around New South Wales and seasonal snow staff were all having
a great time. This created a friendly atmosphere and it was very refreshing to be in a
new environment.
By 11:00pm Woodsy, dressed in the union jack, was cranking out some classic house
tunes and the way he was mixing them - wow - why is this man not playing more
regularly in Sydney clubs?? He was simply perfect at setting the right mood,
in fact the floor was filled by the end of his set with a mass of bodies vying
for dancefloor space.
All the red faces from a day out on the snow were smiling, and everyone was set
for a fantastic night. The hotel had already reached capacity of 900 people by
12am. It had a real old school party flavour, you could tell the Lunacy Crew
had been around for a long time.
The excitement escalated with Craig Obey and the Jackal's crazy back to back
action, playing some wacky funky breaky bits (oh baby I like it raw!) as well
as some awesome scratching and deft sampling, this really got the crowd shakin
their toosh.
The blue and green lasers really created a lunar atmosphere that was taking off.
At 2am Ben Korbel fresh from Spain played progressive house infused with a
Spanish flavour. As he dropped his first record fake snow was falling seemingly
from the lasers adding to the fluffiness of the evening.
The crowd was dancing till all hours in the morning. The variety of music was
probably the highlight with Kashika's progressive tech sound really kept
the crowd on their feet and when she dropped Paul van Dyke's "For an Angel"
I thought the roof of the LJH was going to come down.
As the party winded up at 4:30am screams and cheers echoed throughout the valley.
What a night, most defiantly the best party of the 2002 snow season.
Thanks Lunacy for a very very memorable evening.
